Troy Merriman Receives Wade Christiansen Purple Heart Scholarship Award for 2017
Congratulations to Troy Merriman!
The Wade Christiansen Purple Heart Scholarship Fund and the Montana State University Veterans Support Center are pleased to announce that Troy has received a $1,000 award for the upcoming school year.
About his service and education, Troy writes:
I joined the Montana Army National Guard in 2011 after graduating high school. I entered the Guard as a 15B, Aircraft Powerplant Repairer, and was assigned to the 1-189th GSAB in Helena, MT. Upon returning from Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, I was informed I was deploying. In 2013 I deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While there, I provided maintenance support for an Assault and a Medivac company with UH-60 Blackhawks. A portion of that support was the Downed Aircraft Recovery Team, where I was able to successfully trouble shoot and repair a helicopter that had an emergency landing due to engine failure. When I returned from deployment I decided to return to school and in the Fall of 2014 I began school at Montana State University.
The Wade Christiansen Purple Heart Scholarship Fund will continue making awards to outstanding veterans like Troy and their families for years to come. Please consider a one-time or ongoing donation to the project. All donations are 100 percent federally tax-deductible, and every cent goes to veterans like Troy transitioning from military to civilian life and pursuing an education.
